According to the Metro Transit, the Hiawatha LRT (the Twin Cities only current light rail line) surpassed 10 million rides in 2008, a 12% increase from 2007, the first time it has been over the 10 million mark. Weekday rush hour ridership was approximately 37,000 per day.

Not that it matters to the anti-transit whack-jobs. A few choice 'comments' from the star tribune article.

Well 'myopinion123' it'd be larger than the 82 million riders quoted in the article, since the only count that can occur is for paid rides.

Sausage decides that everyone is getting a free-ride on transit, but still fails to grasp the concept that Metro Transit can not count someone who doesn't pay for the ride.

Auericgopher does not understand that transit subsidies encourage drivers out of their cars, thus reducing the need to increase capacity on the roads. Thankfully does not try to make a case about someone not paying for their ride. Perhaps that horse has finally been beaten to death?

Hoffa26... thank you. Thank you for pointing out what should be patently obvious. No wonder no one likes your comment, how can these anti-transit whackos possibly make off-the-wall remarks about how most riders must be fare-jumpers when you come along with your 'fact-based' analysis and bring the whole party down.

Riders/Ridership/Boardings = PAID fares. Do you want to know how we know this? Because if Metro Transit was counting every 'body' on the bus/train, they'd have announced TWO figures today... paid fares and total rides.
